As the winter chill sets in, mastering the art of layering becomes essential for staying warm while retaining a stylish edge. However, the fear of looking bulky often leads many to compromise on fashion for functionality. But fear not, for with the right techniques, you can layer up in a way that keeps you cozy without sacrificing style. From button-ups to leather, vests to sweaters, and lightweight to heavy jackets, here are some great ways to layer outfits for winter like a pro.
Start with a Base: Begin with a lightweight, fitted base layer such as a thermal or a long-sleeve tee. This helps trap heat close to your body without adding unnecessary bulk.
First shirt is from Sweewe, Second and Third are from Clever Alice Collection.
Play with Proportions: Experiment with different lengths and proportions to create visual interest. Pair a longer button-up shirt with a shorter jacket or layer a longer coat over a shorter vest for a modern twist.
Add a Button-Up Shirt: Button-up shirts are versatile layering pieces that add sophistication to any outfit. Opt for a classic color such as blue, ivory, even green. A chambray shirt is great for a casual look, or a dress shirt for a more polished ensemble. Leave it unbuttoned or partially open over your base layer for added dimension.

Focus on Fit: Pay attention to the fit of each layer. Opt for slim or tailored silhouettes to avoid unnecessary bulkiness. Experiment with oversized pieces that can go over slimmer fits to add dimension and achieve a comfortable chic look.
Incorporate Vests: Vests are underrated yet incredibly effective in winter layering. A puffer vest adds warmth without bulk, while a quilted, leather ,or denim vest lends a stylish flair. Wear it over your shirt or sweater for extra insulation.
Leverage Leather: A leather jacket is a timeless piece that adds instant edge to any outfit. Opt for a fitted style to avoid unnecessary bulk. Layer it over a hoodie or a chunky sweater for added warmth and texture.

Embrace Sweaters: Sweaters are winter wardrobe staples that offer endless layering possibilities. Choose thinner knits for layering under jackets and thicker options for standalone warmth. Choose a bulky sweater to put over a button up, turtle neck, a t-shirt, long sleeve ,or even another lighter weight sweater. Experiment with different textures like cable knits, ribbed sweaters, or cashmere blends for added interest.
First Sweater is from Feelkoo, second sweater is from Summum.
Accessorize Thoughtfully: Complete your winter look with accessories like scarves, beanies, and gloves. These not only add an extra layer of warmth but also serve as stylish accents to your outfit.
Mix and Match Jackets: From lightweight bombers to heavy-duty parkas, jackets are key players in winter layering. Layer a lightweight bomber jacket over a hoodie or sweater for a trendy streetwear look. For colder days, opt for a down-filled parka or a wool coat as your outermost layer that you can easily put over your assembled layered fit to complete the look.
The first jacket is from Summum, the second jacket is from Clever Alice Collection.
Confidence is Key: Ultimately, the key to mastering winter layering is confidence. Own your style choices and embrace the versatility of layering to create looks that are both functional and fashionable.
By incorporating these tips into your winter wardrobe rotation, you can stay warm and stylish without feeling weighed down by layers. From button-ups to vests, leather to sweaters, and lightweight to heavy jackets, there are endless possibilities for creating chic winter outfits that defy the chill. So layer up, embrace the cold, and let your style shine through all season long.

The Green Way to Shop: Why Shopping Samples Benefits the Environment, Unique Finds, Exclusive Collections, and Emerging Designers
In today's consumer-driven world, where fast fashion dominates, it's crucial to consider the environmental and creative impact of our choices. At Clever Alice, we have always prided ourselves on our mission to provide sustainable options for our clients, paired with spreading a sustainable initiative. Our brand, built on selling samples, expresses our passion to offer sustainable, unique, and affordable pieces for all people to enjoy and partake in sustainable fashion. One way to make a difference is by embracing practices that promote sustainability, uniqueness, exclusivity, and the growth of emerging and existing fabulous designers – the practice of shopping sample sales. In this blog post, we'll explore why shopping samples is not just a choice but a conscious decision that has far-reaching benefits for the environment, fashion enthusiasts, exclusive collections, and giving designers' unseen designs a second chance.
A Sustainable Approach to Fashion
Fast fashion has long been associated with environmental degradation due to its mass production, overconsumption, and disposal of cheaply made clothing. By embracing the concept of shopping samples, we can promote a more sustainable fashion industry. Fewer garments are mass-produced, which means less waste, fewer resources used, and a reduced carbon footprint. Sample pieces are typically made with higher quality materials and craftsmanship, making them more durable and long-lasting. As well as gives unwore clothing that would never make it out of the sample rooms a second chance at life instead of making only to the garbage. Brands like Feelkoo had an extra initiative to use recycled materials in their pieces, making certain labels even more sustainable.
Unique Finds and Personal Style
One of the most exciting aspects of showcasing samples is the treasure hunt for unique and rare pieces. When designers create samples, they often experiment with unconventional styles, colors, and materials that may not make it into mainstream production. This allows fashion enthusiasts to discover one-of-a-kind pieces that express their individuality and personal style. By embracing samples, you're not just wearing clothing; you're making a statement. Brands such as Allison or Walter Baker are known for their unique and statement pieces that will always prompt the question, 'Where did you get that?'
Exclusive Collections for Discerning Shoppers
Sample sales and exclusive showcases offer an opportunity for shoppers to access limited edition and exclusive collections that aren't available in traditional retail stores. This exclusivity adds a touch of luxury and excitement to the shopping experience. For fashion connoisseurs, it's a chance to own a piece of artistry that reflects the designer's vision without compromise. Brands like Heartloom and Molly Bracken always provide multiple pieces that you will never be able to find in stores, giving clients the opportunity to own one-of-a-kind pieces that are timeless and memorable.
Empowering Emerging Designers
Not every innovative and visionary designer fits into the mainstream fashion industry. Showing samples allows emerging designers to showcase their creativity, experiment with their ideas, and gain exposure to a wider audience. Even if their designs don't immediately hit the mainstream market, they have the opportunity to refine their skills, receive feedback, and gradually make their mark in the industry.
Fostering a Culture of Appreciation
When you invest in sample pieces, you become a patron of artistry and craftsmanship. You're appreciating the creative process and supporting designers who dare to push the boundaries of fashion. This shift in consumer mentality encourages designers to continue experimenting and innovating, leading to a more diverse and vibrant fashion landscape.
Showing samples is a conscious choice that benefits the environment, promotes unique and exclusive collections, and empowers emerging designers. It encourages sustainability, fosters individuality, and cultivates a culture of appreciation for fashion as an art form. By choosing to explore and embrace sample showcases and sales, you're not just making a fashion statement; you're making a statement for a more sustainable, creative, and inclusive fashion industry. So, the next time you're on the hunt for a unique piece to add to your wardrobe, consider the beauty and benefits of showing samples.

A Stylish Farewell: 2023 End-of-Year Recap of Fashion Trends
As we say goodbye to 2023 and prepare to welcome a new year, it's the perfect time to reflect on the all that Clever Alice had to offer in fashion trends that defined the past year. In 2023, Clever Alice opened a new location in the West Village to bring new fashion and small business to the popular area. While the fashion world witnessed a delightful mix of nostalgia, sustainability, and innovation. From the resurgence of '90s fashion to a heightened focus on eco-conscious choices, here's a comprehensive recap of the fashion trends that left a lasting impression in 2023.
Nostalgia Resurgence
The saying "what goes around comes around" couldn't be more fitting for 2023. This year, fashion designers and enthusiasts took a trip down memory lane, reviving iconic styles from the 1990s. Baggy jeans, crop tops, chokers, and bucket hats made a triumphant return to the fashion scene. These vintage-inspired looks brought a sense of nostalgia and a touch of the past into our wardrobes. Brands such as Paper Moon and Oraije.
Sustainable Chic
In 2023, sustainability was more than just a buzzword; it became a way of life for many fashion-forward individuals. Eco-conscious consumers drove a significant shift towards sustainable and ethical fashion choices. Brands began prioritizing environmentally friendly materials, zero-waste designs, and fair labor practices. This commitment to sustainability not only helped reduce the fashion industry's environmental impact but also fostered a sense of responsibility among consumers. Clever Alice has always had a sustainable intiative to keep clothing out of landfills and in your closet, giving clothing a second chance to find a home.
Gender-Fluid Fashion
2023 saw a continued blurring of traditional gender lines in fashion. Brands such as Walter Baker carry many gender-fluid pieces from leather to shirts. Gender-fluid clothing and unisex collections gained popularity, challenging traditional notions of what men and women should wear. This inclusive approach to fashion not only reflected a more diverse and accepting society but also allowed individuals to express themselves authentically through their clothing choices.
Color Explosion
The color palette in 2023 was anything but boring. Vibrant and bold hues dominated runways and street fashion, bringing energy and excitement to wardrobes. From electric blues to fiery reds and sunny yellows, fashionistas embraced a wide spectrum of colors to make bold statements. Color-blocking and mixing contrasting shades became a popular styling choice, adding a playful and artistic dimension to outfit. We saw a lot of colorful pieces from Heartloom and Sweewe.
Maximalism Reigns
Minimalism took a backseat in 2023 as maximalism stole the spotlight. Over-the-top and extravagant styles were celebrated, encouraging fashion enthusiasts to mix patterns, textures, and accessories with abandon. Statement pieces, whether they were oversized hats, feathered coats, or embellished shoes, became staples in many wardrobes. Many of these styles were seen in brands such as, Heartloom, and Walter Baker, with many beautiful, loud pieces to reflect the maximalist style.
As we conclude our 2023 fashion recap, it's evident that the past year was marked by diversity, sustainability, and a spirit of experimentation. From nostalgic nods to the past to a strong commitment to a more sustainable future, the fashion world delivered a memorable year filled with creativity and self-expression.

Introduction: As summer arrives with its warm, sun-kissed days and balmy evenings, it's time to refresh our wardrobes and embrace the latest fashion trends. Among the myriad of choices, one style that effortlessly exudes elegance and sophistication is the white-on-white summer trend. This timeless fashion statement, with its clean, crisp aesthetic, has been a go-to choice for fashion enthusiasts year after year. Join us as we explore the allure and versatility of the white-on-white trend, and discover how you can incorporate it into your summer wardrobe.
The Essence of White-on-White: The white-on-white summer trend revolves around the concept of embracing monochromatic elegance. It involves creating a cohesive ensemble by pairing different shades and textures of white, resulting in a fresh and contemporary look. The simplicity of this style makes it a favorite choice for both casual and formal occasions.
Play with Textures: When working with an all-white ensemble, the key is to play with textures to add depth and visual interest to your outfit. Mixing materials like lace, linen, cotton, chiffon, and silk can create a beautiful contrast while maintaining the overall monochromatic aesthetic. Opt for a lace blouse paired with linen pants or a cotton eyelet dress with a silk scarf for a look that is effortlessly chic.
Embrace Different Shades: White comes in various shades, from pure white to ivory, cream, and off-white. Mixing different tones of white can create a sophisticated and multi-dimensional look. Experiment with pairing a crisp white shirt with off-white trousers or a cream-colored dress with white accessories. This variation in shades adds depth to your outfit while maintaining the elegant monochromatic palette.
Layering with Sheer Fabrics: Summer is the perfect time to experiment with lightweight and breezy fabrics. Incorporating sheer elements into your white-on-white ensemble can lend an ethereal and romantic touch. Layer a sheer lace top over a camisole or wear a sheer chiffon kimono over a white slip dress. The translucent layers add a sense of intrigue and elevate the overall aesthetic.
Accessorize with Confidence: When it comes to accessories, white-on-white allows you to get creative. Opt for metallic accents, such as silver or gold jewelry, to add a touch of sophistication. A statement belt can define your waistline and add a hint of contrast to the ensemble. Complete your look with a pair of white sandals, wedges, or espadrilles to keep the focus on the white palette.
Maintaining the Crispness: To pull off the white-on-white trend flawlessly, it's essential to keep your garments crisp and clean. Ensure that your whites are stain-free and well-maintained to preserve their pristine appearance. Follow the care instructions on your clothing labels and consider investing in a good-quality fabric whitener or bleach alternative to restore their brilliance.
Conclusion: The white-on-white summer trend offers a timeless and refreshing style that exudes elegance and grace. By experimenting with different textures, shades, and layers, you can create a captivating and versatile ensemble suitable for any occasion. Embrace the simplicity and purity of this trend, and let your inner fashionista shine this summer. Whether it's a casual day out or a special evening event, the white-on-white trend is sure to leave you looking effortlessly chic and sophisticated.
]]>Ivy league, collegiate styles defined the decade and various expressions of aesthetic ranged from subdued and chic to gaudy and ironic. Brands like Lacoste or Polo Ralph Lauren epitomized the nostalgia for the class of yester-year. We see this impact today through current trends such as the subdued “stealth wealth” or more ironic “acedemia-core” you may have seen scattered across your TikTok page.
As the fitness craze hit the nation with full force, stylish athletic wear was integrated more and more into everyday dress. Designers like Norma Kamali utlized comfortable materials like jersey while brands like Alaïa relied on form fitting silhouettes by utlizing fabrics like lycra. Leggings, leg warmers, windbreakers and other styles usually found in the gym were making their way mainstream. An effect we see today in full force as activewear seems to be a permenate mainstay in our closets.
Modern feminism paved way for new feminine icons such as Princess Diana or Vivenne Westwood. Glamour was presented in a loud, yet elegant fashion signifying a form of respect for the regal traditions of the past with a modernist perspective. Their cutting edge take on royalty, diplomacy and femininity presented a new perspective on bourgeois, belle epoque flavors. Today’s “Recency-Core” draws heavily from this reimagined take on the theatric style of dress.
The 80s were a time of affluence as the result of hard work and bold suits were tailored to reflect that. This period of economic boom lead to prominent displaces of affluence through conservative styles of dress. The structural power suit with striking shoulder pads and a slim waist became a staple in everyone’s closet. As more and more women tranistinoned into roles in the boardroom or other traditionally held male positions, they relied on their way of dressing to embody their newfound sense of power.
The punk attitude spread across the globe, with each geographic epicenter claiming it’s own take on a set of morals and aesthetics to reflect. The popularity of punk rock, post punk and new wave music styles influenced a generation of kids, channeling the angsty energy through DIY outfits of self-expression. Rebelling against the “Greed is Good” attitudes associated with the preppy sophisticate – a “bottom up” approach to personal style evolved. Punks sought inspiration in niche subcultures and working class individualists in response to the top down trends that were dictated by a few reigning designers. The emergence of skateboarding and skate culture called for a new style of clothes that were fit for the physical demands of the sport.
The emergence of Hip-Hop and related styles of dance brought out a new way of dressing as well. Athletic jumpsuits and sneakers were combined with old-school ideologies to present a different look than those participating in the aerobic craze of the time. A mix of street-style and luxury was fused in a new and unique way through hip-hop culture. Adidas superstars and Air Jordans caught on like wildfire and solidified the staying power of the sneaker in our wardrobes.
So what do you think? Can you see any influence of the 80s in your own wardrobe? Now in store we’re seeing a reimurgance of bright colors and big shoulders. Check out how our love of 80’s fashion is impacting our own aesthetic in person or online!

The mini skirt is a skirt with a hemline well above the knees, typically at mid-thigh level, and is one of the most iconic fashion garments of the 1960s. Its history can be traced back to the 1950s when designer Mary Quant, who is credited with inventing the mini skirt, was looking for a new design that would appeal to young women who wanted to break away from the conservative fashion of the time.
Quant opened her first boutique, Bazaar, in London in 1955 and began experimenting with shorter hemlines. The mini skirt as we know it today, however, didn't make its debut until 1965. It was the era of the Swinging Sixties, and the mini skirt became a symbol of youthful rebellion and sexual liberation. The garment was seen as a bold statement of female empowerment, challenging traditional gender roles and expectations.
The mini skirt was worn by famous models such as Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton and was popularized in the United States by fashion icon Jacqueline Kennedy. The garment became a staple of fashion during the 1960s, but it also sparked controversy and criticism. Many people saw the mini skirt as vulgar and inappropriate, and it was banned in some schools and public places.
Despite the controversy, the mini skirt continued to be popular throughout the 1970s and beyond, with designers continuing to experiment with different fabrics, patterns, and styles. Today, the mini skirt remains a fashion classic and is still worn by women of all ages.

]]>Hyper-local trends and sub-cultural movements absolutely still have a subtle impact on how we get dressed. But, in today’s age, a wardrobe with a sense of fluidity and versatility is a must.
From the festival to the urban landscape. From an excursion in the mountains to a hipster bar in Brooklyn. The fashion muses of today are leading adventurous lifestyles and their closets reflect that.
While shopping locally has been a huge cultural push in recent years, today perspectives are expanding to a global mindset. Shopping an array of designers from all over the world who prioritize quality craftsmanship and ethical practices is the new wave.
Check out our Top 4 Trends for Global Dressing:
Take a fusion of Mad Max meets Burning Man, add a touch of Berghain club kid and elevate the look with Antwerp, Avant Garde references. Viola, you’ll be imbued in cooler than cool, ultra unique energy. This look takes a moody, vampy vibe back down to earth with fun cuts, strappy features and clothes that are actually comfortable to wear.
Our fashion muses are not taking life so seriously. They’re embracing the joy of life by celebrating color, pulling from a set of diverse multicultural references, embracing the form of the body and promoting a sense of fun. Mesh prints, bright colors and clashing patterns are all worn in experimental ways. This look asks “Why not?” Why not take a risk? Why not try a bold dress? Why not have some fun?
One trend that any world traveler will adopt while galavanting from place to place is a chic approach to minimalism. If there’s one thing this trend is not is boring or blending in. Attention to subtle detail and minimal features allows intricate patterns and quality tailoring to shine without distraction. With limited luggage space, pieces that go with everything are a must. Elevated elegance is one thing that is never lost in translation.
A little romance goes a long way. From sweet baroque inspirations to iconic classic silhouettes, an old-school nostalgia is seeping into wardrobes world wide. Old Hollywood starlets have returned to the cultural zeitgeist. It-Girls from the 90’s are back in full swing. Full bodied skirts, an abundance of ruffles, and sweet floral accents are staple characteristics. This trend is less about referencing a specific era and more about celebrating a sense of romantic nostalgia through a sweet style imbued with historical references.

]]>Sure, I'm talking about New York Fashion Week right now.
But, these are the phrases that have defined the last year of our lives.
The past year has been one of unbelievable emotional and material turns for all of us. Whether we came back into the office this year after wondering if we ever would, or went to a party again after all those stretches of loneliness, or traveled to a new place after fearing our own grocery stores. We so quickly forget the highs of doing something we thought we may have lost again, as soon as it becomes our routine; that is to say normal. But there is no normalcy without a history to define it, and the things we learned from a strange couple years still influence how we even define normal, how we define freedom, how we define joy, how we define ourselves.
If expression is all about definition, the things we have learned, the ways we have changed, do in fact influence our outward auras. It influences our style.
This fashion week will be a celebration of all the things we have learned. Welcome to a complete style forecast of that celebration:
This post pandemic, return to work is instilled with a desire for comfort and a questioning of why we subjugated our own comfort beforehand for the sake of professionalism. Ease of wear does not indicate lack of stylishness, and thus comfortable workwear will be a recurring theme this Fashion Week. Work wear can be versatile, sleek, and easy.
This being said, people also settled into a slower paced life with greater emphasis on connection to nature and sustainability. We questioned what actually matters to us and how lucky we are to be able to do the things we love. This will also be reflected in the professional wear. Think: French seaside traveler who journals.
Cut out knitwear is a combination of a desire for comfort, expression, and leisure, while also being office appropriate.
Elastic is no longer a bad word. Elastic waist, wrap waist, and tie waist dresses perfectly combine a desire for well fitting professional wear, comfort, and dreamy freedom chasing. These dresses are perfect for both the office and placing a paparazzi deterring hand on the forehead at the airport, on the way to a Greek or Italian beach. Our office wear needs a touch of resort wear.
Her hair is kind of wild and free.
Many of us reassessed how seriously we are taking our lives. Many people are remembering to stop forgetting to just live it. There is something to be said for the je ne sais quoi of certain dresses, those that are just thrown on and somehow transport you to the mindset of a confident girl touring with a 70’s band. Clothes that chase that sense of freedom are about to pop up everywhere.
Similarly the past couple years have shifted the collective consciousness back to a historical romanticism. Think: yearning, drinking coffee on a balcony while looking down at the world, writing a love letter. Styles at fashion week this year will be attuned to styles of the past, the ones we want to see our soulmate in from across a smoky cocktail bar.

And remember: SAMPLES = SUSTAINABILITY
We all know that we have a mutually constitutive relationship with our planet. We need it so we have to treat it like it needs us, because it does! The best way to influence our footprint on an individual level is to reduce our personal waste. This can be hard though, especially when we fall in love with a sweater in the window despite having seven very similar sweaters already. But what if the sweater was not a new marketed item but rather something we were saving from ending up in waste because it was never going to hit the retail market? it almost sounds too good to be true. This is the principle behind shopping at sample sales. G-Club explains that, "...putting on sale what usually remains unsold or disposing of the stock, thus trying to introduce within the fashion industry a model that is as green as possible". Sample sales actually prevent overconsumption and waste by allowing customers to buy the clothes that never would have hit retail, are fresh off the runway, and are shockingly less expensive because they have never been priced for retail.
