The debate has been on going for some time, real vs fake, leather of course. The brand Simply Mila and a private label from Paris both offer amazing vegan leather trendy pieces. But what is vegan leather ?
Vegan leather is often made from polyurethane, a polymer that can be made to order for any designer's whim. It can also be made from innovative and sustainable materials such as pineapple leaves, cork, apple peels, other fruit waste, and recycled plastic and used to create products that put animal skins to shame. But many times it is synthetics like plastic so is it better? Many animal lovers say YES!
Here are a few of our favorite faux leather pieces that promise to satisfy any real leather lover.
For those of you that love the real thing, supporters can argue that leather companies use the byproducts of the animal , after it is used for food. That animals are not killed simply for their skin and that the leather is colored with vegetable dye not harsh chemicals as in synthetics. We currently have sample collections from Jakett and Mauritius who produce their garments through sustainable methods. Take a look at their Spring lines.
